Early Life and Education

Edvard Mirzoyan was born on December 8, 1908 (or November 25, 1908, according to some sources), in Bluur, a village in the Surlumalin district of the Erivan Governorate (present-day Turkey). He displayed an early passion for music and pursued his studies at the Musical College affiliated with the Moscow Conservatory, graduating in 1930.

Moscow Conservatory and Teaching

In 1935, Mirzoyan graduated from the Moscow Conservatory, where he studied composition under the renowned Nikolai Myaskovsky. He returned to Armenia in 1936, where he served as a teacher and head of the music department at the Leninakan Musical College.

Eminent Educator and Conductor

From 1938, Mirzoyan resided in Yerevan, teaching composition at the Conservatory and conducting the orchestration class from 1959 onwards. He held the position of Rector of the Conservatory from 1954 to 1960 and also served as Chairman of the Union of Composers of Armenian SSR from 1953 to 1957.

Later Career and Legacy

In 1977, Mirzoyan was bestowed with the prestigious title of People's Artist of the USSR. He continued to teach and compose until his passing in Yerevan on November 4, 1988. Mirzoyan is remembered as an influential teacher and a towering figure in Armenian music. His resting place is at the renowned Tokhmakh Cemetery.
