Early Life and Education
Grigory Nikolayevich Kaletnik was born on May 2, 1949, in the village of Klembovka, in the Yamopol district of Vinnytsia Oblast. He was raised by his father, Nikolai Antonovich, and mother, Praskovya Samoylovna. Kaletnik completed his undergraduate studies in engineering mechanics at the Ukrainian Academy of Agriculture from 1966 to 1971. He went on to earn a degree in engineering economics from the Ukrainian State University of Food Technologies in 1998. In 1990, he obtained a Candidate of Science degree in agricultural sciences from the All-Union Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
Political Career
Kaletnik's political career began in 1992 as a representative of the President of Ukraine in the Yamopol district. He held various high-ranking positions in local government, including Chairman of the Vinnytsia Regional Council from 1998 to 2002 and Chairman of the Vinnytsia Oblast State Administration from 2004 to 2005. Kaletnik was a member of the Ukrainian Parliament (Verkhovna Rada) from 2002 to 2012, representing the Party of Regions.
Academic Career
In 2010, Kaletnik was elected Rector of Vinnytsia National Agrarian University. He held this position until 2023. Under his leadership, the university established a number of scientific centers and implemented innovative educational programs. Kaletnik was also a member of the Ukrainian Academy of Agrarian Sciences and received several prestigious awards for his contributions to science and education.
Controversies
In 2013, Kaletnik's leadership came under fire during protests organized by the Opposition Movement "Opora." Students and staff of Vinnytsia National Agrarian University allegedly harassed and obstructed activists and journalists who were campaigning against legislation that would diminish the importance of external testing (VNO) in Ukrainian education.

Kaletnik was recognized with numerous honors and awards throughout his career, including:
