Early Career in Uruguay

Giacomazzi began his professional career with Bella Vista in 1997, playing for two seasons and scoring 10 goals in 53 matches. He then moved to Peñarol in 1999, where he spent two more seasons, making 34 appearances.

Arrival in Lecce and Rise to Prominence

In 2001, Giacomazzi embarked on a new chapter in his career when he joined Italian club Lecce alongside his compatriot Javier Ernesto Chevanton. He made his debut on August 26, 2001, in a 1-1 draw against Parma. During his first season, he scored 7 goals in 30 appearances. Despite his contributions, Lecce was relegated to Serie B. However, the team gained promotion back to the top flight the following season, although Giacomazzi saw less playing time, featuring in 23 matches.

Giacomazzi evolved into a key player for Lecce during the 2004/2005 season, scoring 5 goals. However, the following year was marred by a serious injury that kept him sidelined for half a season. Before the start of the 2006/2007 campaign, Giacomazzi received a lucrative offer from Bolton Wanderers in England, but he opted to remain with Lecce. He even captained the team on several occasions during that season.

Loan Spells and Record-Setting Achievements

On January 31, 2007, Giacomazzi was loaned to Palermo, with Lecce acquiring Gianni Munari in return. He made his debut for Palermo against Empoli on February 11, but the match ended in a 0-1 defeat. He failed to establish himself as a regular starter, playing only 7 games, mainly as a substitute.

On June 6, 2007, Giacomazzi was loaned again, this time to Empoli, where he made 14 appearances.

In the summer of 2008, Giacomazzi returned to Lecce. On May 10, 2009, in a match against Napoli, he surpassed Luigi Piangerelli to become the club's record appearance-holder in Serie A. The following season, he was named team captain. In 2010, he reached the milestone of 200 appearances for Lecce in all competitions. He played a crucial role in the team's return to Serie A, contributing 5 goals in 40 matches during the 2009/2010 season. Despite interest from West Ham, Giacomazzi opted to sign a new contract with Lecce that extended his stay until 2014.
