Göran Broman

Göran Broman is a renowned Swedish scientist, historian of science, and author. He holds the position of Professor at Lund University and has authored numerous scholarly and popular science publications in the field of scientific history.

Contributions to the History of Science

Broman's research interests encompass the history of science, ideas, and culture. He has made significant contributions to our understanding of eugenics and forced sterilization in Scandinavian countries. His book, "Eugenics and the Welfare State" (1995), sparked international controversy and prompted the Swedish government to apologize and compensate victims of these practices.

Recognition and Awards

In 1992, Broman received the prestigious Augustpriset literary award from the Swedish Publishers Association for his book "Gyllene Äpplen." He was elected president of the Kungliga Humanistiska Vetenskapssamfundet i Lund in 2005.

Linnaean Scholarship

In 2006, coinciding with the 300th anniversary of Carl Linnaeus's birth, the Swedish Institute published Broman's book dedicated to the renowned Swedish naturalist. The work has been translated into multiple languages, including Russian.
