Early Life and Career
Andrew Craighan Glencross, a British musician best known as the guitarist for doom metal band My Dying Bride, was born in England. Before joining My Dying Bride, Glencross played guitar for various bands, including Seer's Tear, a progressive metal group; Apocalypso, a punk/metal formation from Leeds; and Solstice, a British doom metal band.
Joining My Dying Bride
In 1999, Glencross joined My Dying Bride, replacing Calvin Robertshaw on tour for the album "The Light at the End of the World." He eventually became an official member of the band, holding the position until 2014. Coincidentally, Glencross had replaced Robertshaw in the band 15 years earlier.
Instruments and Technique
Glencross exclusively uses Jackson guitars, having switched to them in 2006. His preferred model is the Jackson Randy Rhoads, which he plays both live and in the studio. Glencross's guitar playing is characterized by its dark, atmospheric sound, which complements My Dying Bride's doomy aesthetic.
Legacy and Retirement
After leaving My Dying Bride in 2014, Glencross was once again replaced by Calvin Robertshaw. Despite his departure, Glencross remains an influential figure in the doom metal scene. His contributions to My Dying Bride's sound and his signature guitar playing have left a lasting mark on the genre.
