Biography of Hanna Helena Ekholm
Hanna Helena Ekholm is a Swedish biathlete who was born on July 26, 1984. She began competing in biathlon events in 2003, starting off with junior championships. However, she did not achieve significant success during this time.
Early Career
In the 2005/06 season, Ekholm made her debut in adult competitions. Her highest achievement in her first season was finishing 16th in both the sprint and pursuit races at the event in Pokljuka.
The following season, 2006/07, proved to be much more successful for Ekholm. She was a part of the Swedish national team that won a gold medal in the mixed relay at the World Championships in Antholz-Anterselva, Italy. In the final race of the season, Ekholm's nearly flawless shooting in the mass start allowed her to secure her first career victory and claim the top spot on the podium in Khanty-Mansiysk.
Throughout the 2006/07 season, Ekholm also had five more top-eight finishes. In the 2007/08 season, she achieved seven top-eight finishes and captured a second-place podium finish in the sprint race in Ruhpolding.
Success and Marriage
The 2008/09 season started off on a high note for Ekholm as she won the individual race at the home stage in Östersund. She then went on to become the world champion in the pursuit event in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Additionally, Ekholm won a bronze medal in the mass start and a silver medal in the mixed relay at the same World Championships.
In July 2010, Ekholm married fellow Swedish biathlete David Ekholm and changed her last name to Ekholm.
Throughout her career, Ekholm has also achieved notable success in the overall World Cup standings. She was the winner of the 2008/09 World Cup season.
