Biography of Rafael Vicente Correa Delgado

Rafael Vicente Correa Delgado, the former President of Ecuador, was born on April 6, 1963, in the city of Guayaquil on the Pacific coast of the country. He was raised in a modest family, but managed to graduate from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Guayaquil. Later, he obtained master's degrees in economics from universities in the United States and Belgium. Additionally, he defended his doctoral dissertation in the United States.

Political Career

Rafael Correa remained relatively unknown to the general public until he was appointed as the Minister of Economy of Ecuador. However, after just 106 days, he resigned in protest against direct international intervention, primarily from financial institutions, in the decision-making process of the country. Upon leaving the government, Correa focused on building the "Country Alliance" movement and developing a strategy for implementing much-needed reforms in Ecuador. These efforts eventually led him to the pinnacle of the political arena.

Language Skills and Personal Life

Correa is fluent in Spanish, English, and French. In addition, he can communicate in the indigenous language of Quechua, as he worked as a missionary volunteer in Quechua settlements in the Ecuadorian Andes during his youth. He is married to Anne Malherbe, a Belgian, and they have three children together.
