Early Life and Education
Hari Kostov was born in Skopje, Macedonia, and graduated with a degree in economics from Saints Cyril and Methodius University in 1983.
Career in Government
Early Government AppointmentsKostov joined the government of the Socialist Republic of Macedonia in 1988 and later became the government's economic advisor, holding the position until February 1994.
Ministerial Roles
In Crvenkovski's first government, Kostov served as deputy minister of finance (1994) and chairman of the Committee on Banking Reform.
World Bank and Commercial Banking
From August 1995 to October 1996, Kostov was an alternate executive director at the World Bank. Subsequently, until his appointment as minister of the interior in 2002, he held the position of general manager at a commercial bank.
Premiership
Election as Prime Minister (2004)On May 31, 2004, two weeks after Branko Crvenkovski became president, Kostov was elected prime minister by parliament. The majority of ministers from Crvenkovski's government retained their positions.
Resignation from Office
Kostov resigned from the premiership on November 15, 2004, following disagreements within the coalition government between ethnic Macedonian and Albanian ministers.
Post-Political Career
Currently, Hari Kostov serves as the general manager of Komercijalna Banka Skopje.
