Harold Cummings: A Panamanian Defender on the International Stage
Club CareerHarold Cummings is a Panamanian footballer who currently plays as a defender for the San Jose Earthquakes in Major League Soccer (MLS) and the Panama national team. His professional journey began with Arabe Unido in Panama, where he made his league debut in 2010 before going on to win the league championship the same year. In search of more playing time, Cummings joined Uruguayan club River Plate on loan in 2011, though he saw limited opportunities there. Returning to Arabe in 2012, he continued to strive for a starting position.
In 2014, Cummings crossed the border to Peru and joined Juan Aurich. He made his Peruvian league debut in June 2014 and helped the team finish as runners-up in the championship that same year. Early in 2015, he made a move to Colombia's Independiente Santa Fe. His debut in the Copa Mustang came in February of that year, and he played a pivotal role in the team's victory in the Copa Colombia.
International Career
Cummings' international career commenced in 2010 when he represented Panama in a friendly against Trinidad and Tobago. In 2011, he was part of the Panamanian squad that participated in the CONCACAF Under-20 Championship and the FIFA U-20 World Cup. Later that year, he was named to the national team for the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
2013 marked a significant milestone for Cummings as he assisted Panama in securing second place at the CONCACAF Gold Cup. He played in matches against Canada and Mexico during the tournament. He earned a second bronze medal at the 2015 Gold Cup, featuring in several key matches.
In 2016, Cummings was part of Panama's squad for the Copa America Centenario in the United States. He played in the team's matches against Chile and Bolivia.
