Early Life and Football Beginnings

Harry Kewell was born in Sydney, Australia on September 22, 1978. His passion for football began at a young age, where he represented his school and state team. At the age of 14, he traveled to Europe with the New South Wales Youth Team, where he witnessed an English Premier League match for the first time. Inspired by this experience, Kewell's determination to become a professional footballer grew.

Breakthrough at Leeds United

Kewell's talent was noticed by scouts from Leeds United. On March 30, 1996, at the age of 17, he made his debut for the club but unfortunately they lost to Middlesbrough 0-1. Despite this setback, he persevered and scored his first Premier League goal for Leeds against Stoke City in October 1997. However, his career at Leeds was not without its challenges. He faced criticism for a poor start and later accused the medical staff and teammates of ostracizing him.

Success at Liverpool

In 2002, Leeds faced financial difficulties and Kewell was sold to Liverpool. He quickly became a fan favorite, inheriting the iconic number 7 jersey. On May 25, 2005, Kewell became the first Australian to win the UEFA Champions League. He played half of the first half of the final against AC Milan before being substituted due to an injury, causing some Liverpool fans to question his commitment.

Controversial Move to Galatasaray

In July 2008, Kewell's move to Turkish club Galatasaray was met with criticism from English fans who felt that no player from the Premier League should play for a Turkish club after the tragic fan clashes in April 2000. Kewell defended his decision by stating that he wanted to promote reconciliation.

Legacy and Impact

Despite the controversy, Kewell has become a beloved figure at Galatasaray, earning the nickname "Harry Potter" from the fans. As of today, he continues to play in Turkey, showcasing his skills and leaving a lasting legacy both on and off the pitch.
