Blessed Henryk Krzysztofik: A Saintly Martyr

Blessed Henryk Krzysztofik was a Roman Catholic priest, monk, and martyr. He was among the 108 Blessed Polish Martyrs beatified by Pope John Paul II during his visit to Warsaw on June 13, 1999.

Early Life and Vocation

Henryk Krzysztofik completed high school and enrolled at St. Fidelis College, run by Capuchin Franciscans. On August 14, 1927, he joined the Capuchin monastery, taking the monastic name Henryk.

Theological Studies and Ordination

After completing theological studies in Rome, Henryk professed his monastic vows on August 15, 1931. He was ordained a priest on July 30, 1933.

Ministerial Service

From 1935, Father Henryk served as a pastor in Lublin and briefly as rector of the monastery seminary.

Persecution and Martyrdom

With the outbreak of World War II, the Gestapo arrested Father Henryk on January 25, 1940. He was interned in Dachau concentration camp, where he succumbed to starvation on August 4, 1942.

Beatification

On June 13, 1999, Pope John Paul II beatified Father Henryk Krzysztofik and other Polish martyrs of World War II. His unwavering faith and martyrdom serve as an inspiration to Catholics worldwide.
