Early Life and Education
Oleksiy Yuriyovych Herasimenko was born on January 5, 1984, in Radomyshl, Ukraine. From 2001 to 2005, he studied at the Odesa Military Academy, specializing in combat application and management of airborne units.
Military Career
After graduating from the academy, Herasimenko was appointed commander of the reconnaissance detachment of the 95th Air Assault Brigade. He also pursued further education at the Ivan Chernyakhovsky National Defense University of Ukraine.
As a paratrooper and colonel in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Herasimenko actively participated in the conflict in eastern Ukraine. For his valor and leadership, he was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine in 2015.
Political Career
In the 2019 Ukrainian parliamentary elections, Herasimenko ran as an independent candidate for the Servant of the People party in constituency 62. Victorious with 47.72% of the vote, he became a member of the Verkhovna Rada.
As of 2022, Herasimenko is one of three parliamentarians holding the title of Hero of Ukraine, alongside Mykhailo Zabrodsky and Yuriy Boyko. He serves on the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence.
Current Role
Herasimenko commands the 1st Paratrooper Battalion of the 95th Air Assault Brigade. He continues to serve as a member of the Ukrainian Parliament, advocating for national security and defense.
