Igor Turchin - Handball Coach
Igor Turchin was a renowned handball coach and a recipient of the titles "Honored Coach of the USSR" and "Honored Coach of Ukraine". As a candidate of pedagogical sciences, Turchin made significant contributions to the field of sports coaching.
Career
Turchin served as the head coach of the Kiev Spartak handball team from 1962 to 1993. Under his leadership, the team won the Soviet Union championship title 20 times between 1969 and 1988. Additionally, they won the European Champions Cup 13 times from 1971 to 1984.
Recognitions
In 1976, Turchin was recognized as the best coach in the world. His exceptional achievements in the sport, along with his team, were immortalized in the Guinness Book of World Records. The women's national handball team of the USSR, led by Igor Turchin, achieved remarkable success, securing first place in 1976 and 1980, and third place in 1988. They also achieved first place in 1982 and 1986, second place in 1975 and 1978, and third place in 1973.
In 1975 and 1976, Turchin was awarded the gold medal of the Sports Committee of the USSR as the "Best Coach of the Country".
Legacy
Igor Turchin passed away on November 4, 1993, and was buried at the Berkovtsy Cemetery in Kiev, Ukraine. His contributions to handball and his accomplishments as a coach continue to inspire future generations in the world of sports.
