Early Career

Born in Norway, Raised in Handball

Silje Haugh started her handball journey at IL Gneist in Bergen, Norway. She later joined Stabæk IF in Oslo before moving to Nordstrand IF. In 2007, she became a key player for Tertnes HE in Bergen, spending seven seasons with the club.

Success with Vipers Kristiansand

Rising Star in Norway

In 2014, Haugh signed a two-year contract with Vipers Kristiansand. She proved her worth, earning a contract renewal in 2016.

International Debut

Norway to Japan

Despite representing Norway at the youth levels (8 matches with the junior team, 14 with the youth team), Haugh didn't earn a cap at the senior level. In 2015, she joined the Japanese national team, taking on the name Sakura Kamitani.

Shining for Japan

Leading the Charge

Kamitani made her debut for Japan at the 2015 World Championship, where they finished 19th. At the 2017 World Championship, she became the team's starting goalkeeper, playing all six matches and scoring her first international goal. In the Round of 16 against the Netherlands, she was named Player of the Match despite Japan's defeat in overtime.
