Early Life and Career
Igraf Igorevich Yoska was born on May 14, 1942, into a musical Roma family in what is now Ukraine. His father was a dancer, and his mother was a singer. Immersed in music from a young age, Yoska began performing at the age of nine.
Musical Education and Training
Yoska enrolled at the Kyiv Conservatory, where he studied voice, composition, and guitar. He later trained under renowned Argentinian guitarist Maria Luisa Anido in 1966, honing his guitar technique. In 1967, he traveled to Milan, Italy, to study vocal performance with the legendary Italian tenor Giuseppe De Stefano, where he mastered the art of bel canto singing.
Academic and Artistic Achievements
After graduating from the conservatory, Yoska pursued postgraduate studies and completed his doctoral dissertation on the significance of sound. He became a member of the Union of Composers of the USSR in 1973. Yoska's compositions and performances have earned him national recognition, including the State Prize and the Lenin Prize.
Trio "Romèn" and Artistic Collaborations
In 1973, Yoska founded the vocal trio "Romèn" at the Romèn Theater, featuring Valentina Ponomareva and Georgy Kvik. The trio gained immense popularity throughout the 1970s.
Film and International Recognition
Beyond music, Yoska's talents extended to film. While training as a guitarist in Spain, he appeared in the film "Psychosis" alongside the iconic actress Gina Lollobrigida. Yoska's accomplishments have been recognized internationally, with inclusions in the "International Encyclopedia of Music" (London, 1994) and the "Classical Guitar in Russia and the USSR" encyclopedia (1992).
