Early Life and EducationIsabella Blume was born on April 22, 1892, in Buggenhout, Belgium. Her father served as a pastor, influencing her own religious upbringing. Isabella pursued theological studies and later became a renowned historian and literature professor.
Political Activism
As a young woman, Blume became actively involved in politics as an anti-fascist and feminist. In 1918, she joined the Belgian Labor Party, which later evolved into the Belgian Socialist Party. Her participation in the 2nd World Congress of Peace Advocates in 1951 led to her expulsion from the party.
Parliamentary Career
In 1936, Blume was elected to the Belgian Parliament, representing the Brussels constituency. She became a prominent member of the Executive Committee of the Belgian Peace League.
Role in the World Peace Council
In 1951, Blume became a member of the World Peace Council (WPC). Her dedication to global peace culminated in her election as the Coordinating President of the WPC from 1965 to 1969.
Communist Party Membership
Initially a non-partisan member of parliament, Blume joined the Communist Party of Belgium in 1961. She served on the party's Central Committee from 1966 until her passing on March 12, 1975.
