Isabel Brasseur: A Canadian Figure Skating Icon
Early Life and CareerIsabel Brasseur was born in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Canada. She began skating at the age of 5 and quickly rose through the ranks of Canadian figure skating. In 1984, she teamed up with Lloyd Eisler, and the pair went on to achieve remarkable success.
Olympic and World Champion
Brasseur and Eisler won two Olympic bronze medals in pairs skating, at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville and the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer. They also captured the world championship title in 1993 and became five-time Canadian national champions.
Post-Competitive Career
After retiring from competitive skating, Brasseur and Eisler co-authored two books, "Brasseur & Eisler: To Catch a Dream" and "Brasseur & Eisler: The Professional Years." They also established B.B.E. Productions Inc. in 1992, a company that organized professional figure skating shows to raise funds for children's charities.
Honours and Recognition
Brasseur's accomplishments have been recognized by prestigious awards and honours. She was inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 1996 and Skate Canada Hall of Fame in 2000.
Personal Life
In 1996, Brasseur married American figure skater Rocky Marval. They welcomed a daughter, Gabriella, in 2000. Brasseur later participated in the ice dancing reality show "Battle of the Blades" in 2009, partnering with Canadian hockey player Glenn Anderson.
