Avigdor Kahalani

Born in Izmir, Turkey, Avigdor Kahalani immigrated to Israel in 1950. He resided in Kibbutz Tirat Zvi before moving to Jerusalem after his parents arrived.

Military Career

Kahalani's military career led him to the rank of Colonel in the Israel Defense Forces. He commanded the 188th Armored Brigade during the Yom Kippur War.

Yom Kippur War

During the Yom Kippur War, Kahalani's brigade was deployed to the Nafakh military base. On October 7, 1973, he and his deputy commander, Lieutenant Colonel David Israeli, were killed in action while leading four tanks from the brigade's headquarters in an attempt to halt advancing Syrian tanks.

Posthumous Honor

For his bravery in combat, Kahalani was posthumously awarded the "Medal of Courage" (Itur ha-Oze).
