The Life and Career of Ivan Petrovich Dombrovsky
Ivan Petrovich Dombrovsky, a prominent Ukrainian jurist, is best known for his tenure as the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine. With a distinguished career spanning several decades, Dombrovsky holds the prestigious titles of a judge of the highest qualification class and Honored Lawyer of Ukraine.
Early Life and Career
Dombrovsky was born on March 6, 1947, in the village of Tsekhanovka, Odessa Oblast. After graduating from high school, he began his career as an electric welder at the Odessa Shipyard No. 1 in 1965. He subsequently served his mandatory military service.
Legal Career
Judge in Chernivtsi OblastIn 1971, Dombrovsky embarked on a legal career in Chernivtsi Oblast. He worked in various judicial capacities, including as a notary public and as a chairman of a district court. In 1975, he earned a law degree from the Odessa State University named after Mechnikov.
Judge in the Supreme Court
In March 1997, Dombrovsky was elected as a judge of the Supreme Court of Ukraine. He became a member of the Civil Cases Collegium and later served as the secretary of the Supreme Court's plenum.
Judge of the Constitutional Court
Dombrovsky was elected as a judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine on November 3, 2005. He was sworn into office in August 2006 and became the acting Chairman in September 2006.
Chairman of the Constitutional Court
On September 19, 2006, Dombrovsky was formally elected as the Chairman of the Constitutional Court. In this capacity, he oversaw the court's operations, including the рассмотре of high-profile cases related to the political crisis in Ukraine.
Resignation from the Chairmanship
