Early Life and Football BeginningsAt the tender age of 16, Ivan Kochetkov embarked on his football journey with the "Parizhskaya Kommuna" team, representing the Zamoskvorechye district of Moscow. After spending five years at "MoSenergo," Kochetkov's career took a significant turn in 1936.
Army Service and Transition to Defense
Called up by the Soviet army in 1936, Kochetkov joined the illustrious CSKA Moscow, where he initially played as a center forward. However, his 11 appearances yielded no goals, leading to a change in his position.
Torpedo and Spartak Years
Kochetkov's next stops were at "Torpedo" and "Spartak" Moscow. During his stint at "Torpedo" in 1939, he served as captain of the team.
Wartime Interruption
The outbreak of the Great Patriotic War disrupted Kochetkov's football career. He bravely fought on the front lines as a soldier.
Post-War Return to CSKA
In 1943, Kochetkov returned to CSKA, this time as a central defender. At the age of 30, he experienced a resurgence in his career, becoming a cornerstone of a dominant CSKA side.
Legendary Match in 1948
The 1948 championship season culminated in a dramatic last-minute victory against "Dinamo" Moscow. Kochetkov's own goal put CSKA behind, but his quick thinking and recovery led to a decisive assist for Vyacheslav Solovyov, securing the title for the "Army Men" by a single point.
Coaching Career
Following his retirement as a player, Kochetkov transitioned into coaching, leaving a lasting legacy in Soviet football.
