Ivica Dačić: A Serbian Political Leader
Early Life and EducationBorn on January 1, 1966, in Prizren, Kosovo, Ivica Dačić's childhood was spent in the village of Žitorađa, Serbia. He graduated from high school in Niš and pursued higher education at the University of Belgrade's Faculty of Political Sciences.
Political Career
Dačić's political journey began in 1990 when he led the Social Democratic Party's youth movement in Belgrade. From 1992 to 2000, he served as the Socialist Party of Serbia's (SPS) press secretary. He later became Vice-President of the party and headed its Belgrade branch from 2000 to 2003.
Government Positions
In October 2000, Dačić was appointed Minister of Information in Serbia's interim government. He contested the 2004 presidential election and finished fourth with 4.04% of the vote. In December 2006, he was elected Chairman of the SPS.
Post-2008 Parliament
Following snap parliamentary elections in July 2008, Dačić joined Mirko Cvetković's new government as First Vice-Premier and Minister of Internal Affairs. From 2014 to 2017, he held the positions of First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Recent Roles
From May 31 to June 15, 2017, Dačić served as Acting Prime Minister of Serbia. He was Chairman of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) from 2015 to 2016. In addition, Dačić continues to lead the Socialist Party of Serbia.
International Relations
Dačić has fostered strong diplomatic ties with Russia, maintaining close relationships with its leadership. He has also met with Pope Francis and other international figures.
