Early Career and Breakthrough
Iličević's footballing journey began as a youth player for Viktoria Aschaffenburg in Germany, where he initially played as a forward. In 2005, he joined Darmstadt 98 and quickly became a regular starter under the guidance of coach Bruno Labbadia. By the 2006/07 season, Iličević had established himself as a key player, making 44 appearances and scoring 8 goals in the Bundesliga.
