Biography of Jacques Bosch

Jacques Bosch was a French guitarist and composer of Catalan origin. He lived and worked in Paris from 1853 onwards. He had a close relationship with Edouard Manet, who designed the cover for Bosch's play "Plainte Moresque" (Moorish Lament). Bosch also collaborated with Charles Gounod on a composition called "Pascal", where Bosch wrote the guitar part and Gounod wrote the violin part. Despite living in Paris, Bosch maintained strong ties with his homeland and was actively involved in correspondence with Felipe Pedrell.

Bosch was not only known for his compositions for the guitar but also for other works, including an unpublished opera called "Roger de Flor" (1877). He was also a renowned guitar teacher, with Alfred Cotten being one of his notable students. In addition to his teaching, Bosch authored a guitar method book called "Méthode de Guitarre" (1890).

To commemorate the centenary of his death, Bosch's guitar compositions were reissued, ensuring that his musical legacy continues to be celebrated.
