Early Career and Club Journey
Growing up in Jelgava, Latvia, Gints Freimanis started his football career at Viola. Later, he played for RAF, which merged with Viola to form FK Jelgava. In 2005, he joined FK Ventspils, but only played for their reserve team.
Vysshaya League Debut
In 2006, Freimanis signed with FK Dijvanagi, a newly promoted team to the Vysshaya League. He made his league debut with the team, although they were relegated to the First League at the end of the season.
Back to Home and Abroad
Freimanis returned to FK Jelgava, where he stayed until 2007 before moving to FK Jurmala. In 2008, he had trials with Skonto Riga but did not make the cut. He then joined FK Riga but left during the summer due to financial issues with the club.
Irish Adventure and Return to Latvia
After leaving Riga, Freimanis sought opportunities abroad. He had trials with Cork City and Longford Town in Ireland, but both deals fell through due to transfer delays. Ultimately, he returned to Latvia and finished the 2008 season with FK Jelgava.
Coaching Career
After retiring from playing, Freimanis transitioned to coaching. He became the first coach of the independent Latvia national team in 1991. He has also coached several Latvian clubs, including FK Jelgava, FK Riga, and FK Ventspils.
