Oleg Shelaev is a Ukrainian football player and midfielder for the Ukrainian national team. He was born on [insert date] in [insert place]. Shelaev began his football career as a trainee at the Sports School for Children and Youth "Zarya." He then went on to study at the Kharkiv Institute of Physical Education and was part of one of the reserve teams of "Metalist" in the Kharkiv region championship.
However, Shelaev did not get the chance to play in any matches for the reserve team and decided to accept an invitation from the higher league team, "Zarya" in Luhansk. In November 1993, he played his first game for "Zarya." Although he only played 8 matches in his debut season, Shelaev became a regular player in the following two years. Unfortunately, the Moscow concern "MALC" stopped financing the team, and Luhansk left the top league, finishing in last place in the 1995/96 season.
Shelaev then moved to "Shakhtar" and became the winner of the Ukrainian Cup in 1997. However, he struggled to break into the first team in Donetsk and was loaned to FC "Dnipro," who fought to stay in the top league in the 1998/99 season. After his loan spell, Shelaev was invited to play for "Dnipro" permanently.
Under the guidance of coach Yevhen Kucherevsky, Shelaev and his team competed for bronze medals in the Ukrainian championship and played in European competitions. During this time, Vadim Tischenko, a former player of "Dnipro," provided Shelaev with valuable advice and experience. As a result of his performances, Shelaev earned a call-up to the Ukrainian national team and represented his country in the FIFA World Cup in Germany.
However, in the winter break of the 2008/09 season, Shelaev moved on loan to "Kryvbas" due to a disagreement with the new head coach, Vladimir Bessonov. Throughout his career, Shelaev achieved significant success, including reaching the quarterfinals of the 2006 FIFA World Cup and winning the Ukrainian Cup in 1996/97. He also won silver and bronze medals in the Ukrainian championship and holds the record for the most appearances for "Dnipro" in the Ukrainian championship with 209 matches as of January 1, 2009.
