Early Life and Education

Janusz Steinhoroff was born in September 1946. His academic journey culminated in 1985 when he earned a doctorate in mining engineering.

Political Career

Steinhoroff's political career commenced within the "Solidarity" labor union, where he collaborated closely with Jerzy Buzek, who later became Poland's Prime Minister. As Buzek ascended to power, Steinhoroff transitioned from his role as a research associate at a research institute to a ministerial position.

Vice-Premier and Minister of Economy

Steinhoroff's expertise in energy matters has led to him being entrusted with the crucial task of negotiating with Russia regarding the construction of a pipeline through Poland. This pipeline would transport Russian gas to Western Europe, bypassing Ukraine.

Despite his personal favorability towards the project, Steinhoroff acknowledges the pressure exerted by Kyiv. His diplomatic abilities and pragmatic nature have earned him the reputation of a "compliant pragmatist" and a "technician without political ambitions."

Personal Life

Steinhoroff is married with a daughter. Despite his German-sounding surname, he is known to be fluent in only one foreign language: Russian.
