Early Life and Club Career

Jay DeMerit was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and played college soccer at the University of Illinois at Chicago. After a brief stint with the reserve team of the Chicago Fire, DeMerit moved to Europe in 2003.

Semi-Professional Beginnings

In England, DeMerit initially played for semi-professional clubs in the lower leagues, earning a meager salary of 40 pounds per week. His talent caught the attention of Watford in 2004, and he soon signed a professional contract.

Watford Years

DeMerit spent six years with Watford, playing in the Championship and Premier League. However, his contract was not renewed in 2010.

Vancouver Whitecaps

After leaving Watford, DeMerit signed with the Vancouver Whitecaps of MLS as a free agent in November 2010. He remained with the club until retiring in 2014.

International Career

DeMerit made his debut for the United States national team in 2007 and represented his country at the 2010 FIFA World Cup. He played 23 matches for the United States, winning the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2007 and being a finalist at the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2009.
