Jean-François Clervoy
Jean-François Clervoy is a French engineer and astronaut who has flown in space three times, accumulating a total of 28 days, 3 hours, 5 minutes, and 35 seconds in space. He is currently an active astronaut for the European Space Agency (ESA).
Early Life and Education
Clervoy was born on November 19, 1958, in Longwy, France. He spent his childhood in Toulouse. In 1976, he attended military college, followed by the École Polytechnique in Paris in 1981 and the National School of Aeronautics and Space in 1982. In 1987, he completed his studies at the École du Personnel Navigant d'Essais et de Réception (EPNER), the French test pilot school.
Career
Clervoy has worked at the French National Centre for Space Studies (CNES) since 1983. In 1985, he was selected for the second group of astronauts in the CNES astronaut corps. From 1988 to 1991, he trained at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Russia to prepare for missions on Soyuz spacecraft and the Mir space station. In 1992, he joined ESA's astronaut corps. From August 1992 to August 1993, he underwent training at the NASA Johnson Space Center.
Space Missions
Clervoy flew three space missions:STS-66 (1994):Served as a mission specialist on the Space Shuttle Atlantis. The mission conducted Earth observation experiments using a deployable radar system. It lasted 10 days, 22 hours, 34 minutes, and 2 seconds.
STS-84 (1997):Served as a mission specialist and payload commander on the Space Shuttle Atlantis. The main objective of the mission was to dock with the Russian space station Mir and conduct experiments. It lasted 9 days, 5 hours, 20 minutes, and 46 seconds.
STS-103 (1999):Served as a mission specialist on the Space Shuttle Discovery. The mission repaired the Hubble Space Telescope. It lasted 7 days, 23 hours, 10 minutes, and 47 seconds.
