Early Life and Career
Jean Mota is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder for Inter Miami in Major League Soccer (MLS). Born in São Paulo, he began his career in the youth academy of Portuguesa Desportos.
Debut and Rise with Portuguesa
Mota made his professional debut for Portuguesa in the 2012 Copa do Brasil. He also made an appearance in the Campeonato Paulista in 2013 before debuting in the top-flight Série A later that year. During his time with Portuguesa, Mota scored his first professional goal in the Série B in 2014, helping his team avoid defeat.
Success with Fortaleza and Santos
In 2015, Mota joined Fortaleza and played a key role in the team's victory in the Campeonato Cearense in 2016. His impressive performances earned him recognition as the tournament's Most Valuable Player. Later that year, he moved to Santos.
Mota quickly established himself as a regular starter for Santos, becoming one of the team's leaders. His standout season was in the 2019 Campeonato Paulista, where he emerged as the league's top scorer and was named Best Player and included in the Team of the Year. In the 2019 Série A, Santos finished as runners-up, with Mota playing a significant role.
Copa Libertadores Success and Move to MLS
Mota featured in seven matches in the 2020 Copa Libertadores, helping Santos reach the final. In December 2021, he signed a contract with Inter Miami in MLS, running until 2024 with an option for an additional year.
Inter Miami Debut and Notable Performances
Mota made his MLS debut in February 2022 against Chicago Fire. He scored his first goal for Inter Miami in the semifinals of the 2022 US Open Cup against Orlando City. Later that year, he scored his first MLS goal against the San Jose Earthquakes.
