American politician and public servant
Jennifer Psaki is an American politician and government official who has recently gained significant media attention due to her role as the official spokesperson for the United States Department of State. Psaki, although not the youngest member of Barack Obama's team, is the most petite, standing at just five feet and three inches tall. She has red hair, a freckled face, and a calm and confident demeanor.

Early Life and Education
Jennifer Rene Psaki, pronounced "Saki," was born in 1978 in Stamford, Connecticut, to a family with Polish and Greek roots. Her mother, Eileen, worked as a private psychotherapist, while her father, Dimitris Psakis, moved from the Greek region of Messenia and adopted the name James Psaki. He quickly rose from being a construction worker to becoming a successful builder and owner of a construction company. Psaki has two younger sisters, Stephanie and Kristen. Interestingly, Psaki's parents held different political beliefs, with her father being a staunch conservative who voted for the Republican Party, while her mother leaned more towards liberal views and supported the Democrats. Psaki believes that she has inherited the best qualities and convictions from both of her parents - a strong work ethic and persistence from her father, and a commitment to social change from her mother.

Childhood and Early School Years
Psaki spent her childhood and early school years in Stamford before her family moved to Cos Cob and later to Old Greenwich. She attended the school affiliated with the Sacred Heart Monastery, and then the Greenwich High School. During her school years, Psaki became heavily involved in swimming. She was part of the school swim team for four years and eventually became its captain. While her swimming achievements were not the highest, she excelled as an organizer and leader. In 1996, after graduating from high school, Psaki continued her education at the College of William & Mary. She swam for the university team for two years, specializing in backstroke, and was also a member of the Chi Omega sorority. In 2000, Psaki earned master's degrees in English literature and sociology and began working as a teacher at the School of Arts in Washington, D.C.

Political Career
Although Psaki pursued a career in education, her interest in politics, nurtured within her family, never waned. Even before her final year in college, she completed a summer internship for fundraising with the Democratic Party. She later volunteered at the Arlington branch of the Democratic Party. It was during her time as a volunteer that Psaki realized her potential in campaign organization, particularly in Iowa, where crucial party caucuses were held. Psaki began working in Iowa for the reelection campaigns of Democrats Tom Harkin and Tom Vilsack. She then served as a press secretary for John Kerry's presidential campaign and later worked as a press secretary for his adult children and his wife. Kerry's loss in the election was a significant blow for Psaki. She went on to collaborate with Congressman Joseph Crowley and handled media requests for the Northeastern and Midwest regions in Congress. It was during this period that Psaki met her future husband, Gregory Matthew Mecher, who was two years older than her and led Steve Driehaus's team, a representative of the Democratic Party from Ohio. By this time, Psaki's parents had already divorced.
Career in the Obama Administration
In February 2007, Barack Obama's presidential campaign started gaining momentum. Psaki, albeit a few days late due to her father's second marriage, joined the campaign and arrived in Chicago immediately after her wedding. Her previous experience with Democrats and extensive network allowed her to secure a position as a traveling press secretary for the campaign. Obama's victory in the election marked the beginning of Psaki's successful political career. She became a White House press secretary and, in December 2009, assumed the role of assistant to the president for communications. Psaki's office was located near the president's, and she occasionally sat in on White House meetings. In May 2010, Psaki married Gregory Mecher. Although the presidential couple did not attend the wedding, they sent the newlyweds a beautiful photo album as a gift. In September 2011, Psaki left the White House team and became the Senior Vice President and later the Managing Director for Public Affairs at Global Strategy Group, a leading firm specializing in high-level public relations strategies and information support that closely collaborates with the Democratic Party. Psaki's return to politics occurred after Barack Obama's re-election as president in 2012. Since February 2013, Psaki has served as the official spokesperson for the United States Department of State, replacing Victoria Nuland. Rumors suggest that her next career move might be to become the White House press secretary, a position currently held by Jay Carney.
Criticism and Controversy
Psaki has faced criticism in the media, primarily from Russian outlets, regarding her statements on Russian-Ukrainian relations. She has been accused of incompetence, making unsubstantiated claims, and displaying carelessness in translation and other errors. It is evident that the current state of international tensions demands a certain level of conduct and careful wording from politicians in her position. However, it should be noted that not all the widely circulated quotes attributed to Psaki are accurate.
