Jerod Shelby is an American businessman, founder, and president of Shelby SuperCars (SSC), a company that manufactures sports cars. He was born on March 11, 1968, in West Richland, Washington.

Early Passion for Racing

At the age of seven, Jerod's father brought home a 'Sears Fun Kart'. Jerod and his brother started driving their kart on the streets of their hometown, Richland. Realizing the danger, they soon discovered a local racetrack and would jump over the fence on Saturdays when it was closed to race. One day, they went to a race with their father and were amazed to see the parking lot filled with cars and trailers. This experience ignited their passion for racing. The following week, the boys started racing themselves, and Jerod showed remarkable talent.

Karting and Family Bond

The Shelby brothers traveled extensively from March to October, competing in national karting championships. Karting became a family affair, and Jerod believes that their close bond was strengthened by the countless hours they spent together on the road. He acknowledges that karting may have caused him to miss out on some school activities or other sports, but he has no regrets. Karting taught him perseverance and the importance of meticulous preparation, which he believes is the key to success.

Pursuing Dreams and Building a Company

Jerod's parents invested a significant amount of time, effort, and money to make their sons' racing dreams a reality. They offered constant support and guidance. However, Jerod's passion for success and his desire to constantly push the boundaries were innate. His first car was a 'Nissan 240Z,' which he heavily modified to have a powerful engine with 450-500 horsepower and a brand-new suspension.

From 1991 to 2001, Jerod worked at Advanced Imaging Technologies, Inc., a startup focused on manufacturing medical equipment. He was a co-founder and major shareholder, responsible for product development, technical and ergonomic design, component manufacturing and testing, as well as final assembly and compliance with regulations.

Unlike most car companies that develop concepts and seek funding before showcasing prototypes, SSC's philosophy is different. Jerod firmly believes in creating a finished product before presenting it to the public. Jerod acknowledges that designing a car is an incredibly complex process, and if he had known the amount of money, time, and effort it would require, he might not have embarked on it. However, he considers his automotive company to be the most valuable experience of his life, and all the sacrifices have been worthwhile.

Competing with industry giants like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bugatti, and Koenigsegg, Jerod envisions SSC becoming a small American company that rises to the top with unimaginable speed, both in the next five and ten years.
