Jim DeMint

Early Life and Education

Jim DeMint was born in Greenville, South Carolina, and graduated from Wade Hampton High School in 1969. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Tennessee in 1973 and a Master of Business Administration from Clemson University in 1981.

Business Career

Before entering politics, DeMint worked as a marketing consultant. He established his own firm, DeMint&Associates, which specialized in market research and strategic planning for healthcare organizations.

Political Career

House of Representatives (1999-2005)

DeMint's political career began in 1999 when he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives as a Republican representing South Carolina's 4th Congressional District. He served in the House until 2005.

U.S. Senate (2005-2017)

In 2004, DeMint was elected to the U.S. Senate, succeeding Fritz Hollings. He was re-elected in 2010 and served until 2017. As a senator, DeMint was known for his conservative views and his support for limited government and individual liberty.

Personal Life

DeMint is a practicing Presbyterian. He met his wife, Debbie, while attending the University of Tennessee. They have two children and four grandchildren.
