Biography of Jim McGreevey
Jim McGreevey, former governor of the state of New Jersey from 2002 to 2004, was born on August 6, 1957, in Jersey City. After graduating from St. Joseph's High School, he attended Columbia University, where he obtained a bachelor's degree. He later received his law degree from Georgetown University and also completed his studies at Harvard University.
Jim McGreevey is married to Dina Matos and they have two daughters, Morag and Jacqueline. On November 6, 2001, McGreevey was elected as the 51st governor of New Jersey and began his term on January 15, 2002. His term was supposed to end on January 17, 2006.
During his first two years in office, Governor McGreevey successfully closed a $14 billion budget gap in the state of NJ and improved the state's attractiveness. Despite historical financial difficulties, he prioritized key areas such as the economy, the environment, and safety. In 2003, McGreevey continued his efforts to promote the growth of NJ as a high-tech, biological, and financial center.
Under his leadership, NJ revitalized the Employment Population Program, which created new job opportunities. He also proposed a five-year plan to create 200,000 new jobs. With his guidance, NJ outperformed the national economy by adding 37,500 new jobs, while the national economy was losing jobs.
