Juan Batista da Silva, better known as Batista, is a Brazilian footballer who excelled as a defensive midfielder. He began his career with the club "Internacional" in 1973 and played for them for 7 years. With Internacional, he became a 5-time champion of the Rio Grande do Sul State Championship and a 3-time champion of Brazil.
National Team Achievements
Batista was first called up to the Brazilian national team, starting with the youth team and later progressing to the senior squad. During this period, he participated in the 1976 Olympics, playing in all 5 matches, and the 1978 World Cup, where he played 7 matches and won the bronze medal.
Move to Grêmio
In 1980, Batista transferred to Grêmio, where he won his 4th Brazilian championship title and his 6th state championship title. He continued to showcase his talent and contribute to the success of the team.
International Career
In 1982, Batista represented Brazil once again, this time in the World Cup. He played in only one match, replacing Zico in a game against Argentina. In that match, he was struck by Diego Maradona, resulting in Maradona's dismissal from the field.
