Early Life and Musical Influences
Joey Gaydos Jr. was born on April 18, 1981, in Dearborn, Michigan, to Greek-American parents. He began playing guitar at the tender age of three and developed a serious passion for it around eight. Gaydos attended Dayjams Camp in Ann Arbor for a week in 2002, where he caught the attention of filmmakers.
The School of Rock
In 2003, Gaydos's guitar skills landed him an audition for "The School of Rock," starring Jack Black. His performance impressed the producers, and he was cast as Zack "Zack Attack" Mooneyham. Gaydos's portrayal of the aspiring rock star earned him international recognition after the film's release.
Musical Career
After "The School of Rock," Gaydos released his self-titled album in December 2004. He is the lead guitarist for the band Badd Raquette. Citing Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and Ozzy Osbourne as early influences, Gaydos's guitar of choice is a Gibson Les Paul.
Legal Troubles
In February 2009, Gaydos was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. In February 2019, he was arrested for a string of retail thefts in Venice, North Port, and Sarasota, Florida. Gaydos admitted to stealing guitars due to his drug addiction. He was subsequently charged with two counts of grand theft and one count of petit theft.
Personal Life and Current Status
Gaydos currently resides in Belleville, Michigan. While acting has taken a backseat to music for him, he continues to pursue his passion for guitar. He enjoys pizza and Kobe beef in his spare time.
