The Fourth Anglo-Dutch War
De Ruyter's greatest triumph came during the Fourth Anglo-Dutch War (1652-1654), a conflict between the Dutch Republic and the Commonwealth of England. He was appointed commander of the Dutch fleet and led his ships to victory in several key battles, including the Battle of Portland and the Battle of Gabbard.
The Battle of Dogger Bank
One of de Ruyter's most famous exploits was the Battle of Dogger Bank, fought on August 5, 1653. The Dutch fleet, under his command, intercepted a powerful English squadron and engaged them in a fierce battle that lasted for several hours. Despite being outnumbered, de Ruyter's superior tactics and seamanship enabled the Dutch to emerge victorious.
