Jonathan F.W. Tenney, known as John Tenney, is an American actor born in 1961 in Princeton, New Jersey. He was raised in a family with a psychiatrist mother and a physicist father. Tenney's college specialties were philosophy and dramatic arts. During his time at Vassar College, he began performing on stage, which led him to pursue a career in acting.
Tenney furthered his education at Juilliard School, where he fully committed to focusing on his acting career. His stage debut came in the production of "The Real Thing" by Mike Nichols. Later, Tenney ventured into the film industry and quickly found success.
Over the years, Tenney has amassed over fifty film roles, making his first appearance on television screens in the late 1980s. His early works include the series "Spenser: For Hire" and the action film "Nasty Hero." Initially, Tenney had minor roles in television series, but their number steadily grew. He appeared in popular projects such as "Murphy Brown," "Tales from the Crypt," "Equal Justice," "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman," and many others.
In 1993, Tenney had the opportunity to star in Tom Flynn's comedy "Watch It" and George P. Cosmatos' western "Tombstone." The year 1994 brought him the role of Steve Turner in the family film "Lassie." In 1997, he had a significant role in the romantic comedy "Fools Rush In" directed by Andy Tennant and the drama "The Twilight of the Golds" directed by Ross Kagan Marks.
In 1998, Tenney played a helicopter pilot in Stephen Gyllenhaal's film "Homegrown." He then joined the stellar cast of Charlie Peters' romantic drama "Music from Another Room." He also portrayed Dorian in the comedy "With Friends Like These..." directed by Philip Frank Messina.
In 2002, Tenney took on the lead role in Michael Kaleo's short film "40." His most recent film works include the horror film "The Stepfather" directed by Nelson McCormick in 2009 and a brief role as an FBI agent in "Radio Free Albemuth."
Although many of Tenney's roles are relatively small, he has a vast quantity of work to his name. He was previously married to actress Teri Hatcher from 1994 to 2003, and they have a daughter born in 1997.
