Prime Ministership and Early Career

Tryggvi Þórhallsson served as Prime Minister of Iceland from July 8, 1926, to August 28, 1927. Prior to his premiership, he held the position of Iceland's Chief Engineer from 1905 to 1917. In 1921, he was elected to the Icelandic Parliament (Althing).

Minister of Finance and Prime Minister

In 1924, Þórhallsson became Minister of Finance in the government of Jón Magnússon. He strengthened the Icelandic króna and was elected Prime Minister after Magnússon's death. He represented the Conservative Party.

Opposition Leader

After the Conservative Party's defeat in the 1927 parliamentary elections, Þórhallsson became the leader of the opposition. In 1929, he co-founded and became the leader of the Conservative Independence Party.

Mayor of Reykjavík

Thorhallsson resigned from the leadership of the Conservative Independence Party in 1934 and became the Mayor of Reykjavík, a position he held from 1933 until his death.
