Biography of Jorik Hendrickx
Jorik Hendrickx is a Belgian figure skater who has achieved great success in his career. He was born in May 1992 in the Flemish province of Antwerp, Belgium. Hendrickx began figure skating at the age of five and has been training with Karina Herrijgers since 2002.
Junior Career
From September 2007, Hendrickx started competing internationally in the junior category. In 2009, he became the champion of Belgium among juniors. The following season, he won the gold medal among juniors in Belgium. Unfortunately, due to injury, he was unable to compete in the junior world championship in Sofia. In 2010, Hendrickx became the Belgian champion for the first time and had the opportunity to compete in the European championship in Tallinn, where he placed in the top twenty. He also participated in the junior world championship in The Hague, finishing among the top fifteen.
Senior Career
In the next season, Hendrickx competed in both junior and senior categories. He performed much better at the continental championship in Bern, Switzerland, than the previous year. At the junior world championship in South Korea, he placed similarly to his previous performance. In May, Hendrickx made his debut at the world championship in Moscow and secured a place among the top twenty skaters.
In the 2011/2012 season, Hendrickx became the vice-champion of Belgium for the second time. He was no longer eligible to compete in the junior category. At the European championship in Great Britain, he placed in the top ten. However, he did not compete at the world championship as Belgium only had one spot and it was taken by the Belgian champion, Kevin van der Perren.
Hendrickx's breakthrough came in the pre-Olympic season when van der Perren retired and he became the leading skater in Belgium. He earned the right to compete in the Grand Prix series. However, injuries continued to plague him. He managed to recover in time for the world championship in Canada, where he finished among the top twenty, securing Belgium a spot in the 2014 Olympic Games. In Sochi, he finished 16th and had a similar performance at the world championship in Japan.
After the Olympic season, Hendrickx continued to compete and fully participated in one of the Grand Prix events. However, he suffered an injury before the next event and had to withdraw. Many speculated that his career would come to an end. However, in September 2015, he appeared at the Nebelhorn Trophy in Oberstdorf. In Maaseik, he became a two-time Belgian champion and performed well at the continental championship in Bratislava, securing a quota for two Belgian skaters. At the world championship in Boston, he finished in the middle of the pack.
In the pre-Olympic season, Hendrickx achieved his highest competitive result by placing near the podium at the European championship in Ostrava. He improved all of his previous records and had his best performance to date. At the world championship in Helsinki, he made it to the finals and finished in the top thirty. However, he did not qualify for the upcoming Olympics in South Korea.
In the new Olympic season, Hendrickx started strong by winning the Nebelhorn Trophy in Oberstdorf and securing a spot for Belgium at the Winter Olympics. He also won the silver medal at the Cup of Nice. In the Grand Prix series, he finished in the middle of the tournament table at the Canadian event.
