Jose Bustamante Belaunde

Alberto Bustamante Belaunde was born in Lima, Peru. He graduated from the Catholic University of Peru's Faculty of Law in 1973 and completed an internship at the University of Wisconsin in the United States.
Career in Academia and Research
From 1972 to 1977, Bustamante Belaunde worked as a staff member at the Latin American Center for Development Management (DESCO). He later served as Director of the Institute for Liberty and Democracy (ILD) from 1984 to 1993. Concurrently, he taught constitutional and administrative law at the Catholic University of Peru and the Peruvian University of Applied Sciences.
Government Service
Bustamante Belaunde served as a consultant on administrative and legal issues to the Peruvian government from 1991 to 1993. In 1999, he was appointed Prime Minister of Peru, a position he held until 2000.
Later Career
In recent years, Bustamante Belaunde has acted as an advisor to the Peruvian Congress' International Affairs Commission. He has also continued his involvement in academia and research.
