Joe Gomez: Rising Defender from Gambia
Early Career and Professional DebutBorn of Gambian descent in London, Joseph Gomez started his footballing journey at the age of 13 with Charlton Athletic's youth academy. Despite interest from several Premier League clubs, Gomez signed his first professional contract with the "Addicks" in 2014. He made his debut for Charlton's first team in the Football League Cup in August 2014, playing the full 90 minutes as a right-back. A week later, Gomez earned his league debut for the club.
Transfer to Liverpool
In June 2015, Gomez joined Liverpool for a fee of £3.5 million. He made his debut in August 2015, starting in the Premier League opener against Stoke City. Since then, Gomez has established himself as a versatile defender, capable of playing at center-back, right-back, and left-back.
International Career
Gomez has represented England at various youth levels, including the U16 and U17 teams. He was instrumental in England's triumph at the 2014 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, playing every minute and earning a place in the team of the tournament. He currently represents the England U21 side.
Gomez made his senior international debut in November 2017 against Germany, coming on as a substitute in the 25th minute. The match ended in a goalless draw.
