Early Years and Career with Hajduk Split

Josko Gluic was a Yugoslav footballer who primarily played as a midfielder. Born in Split, SR Croatia, he began his career in the youth academy of Hajduk Split. At the age of 17, he made his debut for the senior team. Over five seasons in the Yugoslav First League, Gluic amassed 55 appearances and scored 4 goals for Hajduk.

Stint in the Netherlands with Go Ahead Eagles

In 1974, Gluic embarked on a new chapter of his career when he moved to the Netherlands to join Go Ahead Eagles. He made an impressive debut, featuring in 14 matches and scoring 2 goals in his first season. The following season, he further solidified his position in the team, starting in 28 matches and contributing 12 goals.

Unsuccessful Spell at Ajax and Later Career

His performances at Go Ahead Eagles earned him a move to the Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam. However, Gluic struggled to make an impact at the club. After a brief stint, he left Ajax and joined NK Olimpija Ljubljana. However, his time in Slovenia was short-lived, as he only played three matches for the club.

Debut for Hajduk Split

Gluic's debut for Hajduk Split came in 1969, under the management of Slavko Lustica. He entered the field as a substitute in an away match against Sloboda Tuzla, which ended in a 2-0 defeat. His first goal for the club came against Borac Banja Luka in a 1-1 draw on December 14, 1969.

Rise to Prominence under Tomislav Ivic

In the 1971/1972 season, Gluic became a regular starter under the guidance of then-coach Tomislav Ivic. The team competed in the first round of the European Cup, facing Spanish giants Valencia. Although Gluic did not start in either leg, he came on as a substitute in both matches, which ended in a 0-0 draw and a 1-1 draw. Hajduk was ultimately eliminated based on the away goal rule.

Continued Success and Departure from Hajduk Split

After the European campaign, Hajduk focused on the domestic league and finished in 10th place despite Gluic's contributions of 2 goals in 25 appearances. In the 1972/1973 season, Gluic lost his place in the starting lineup, as Ivic left Hajduk to manage NK Sibenik and was replaced by Branko Zebec. Gluic made only 11 league appearances and featured in three UEFA Cup Winners' Cup matches.

In 1973, Ivic returned to Hajduk Split, but Gluic decided to seek a new challenge and left the club at the end of the season to join Go Ahead Eagles in the Netherlands.
