Early Career
Peguy Luyindula, a French footballer of Zairian descent, began his career with FC Niort in 1997. A year later, he joined RC Strasbourg, where he established himself as a key player and earned a call-up to the France under-21 national team, alongside the likes of Djibril Cissé, Sidney Govou, and Olivier Kapo.
Olympique Lyonnais and Olympique Marseille
In 2002, Luyindula was acquired by Olympique Lyonnais, who were seeking a replacement for Steve Marlet. With Lyon, he claimed three consecutive Ligue 1 titles and a French Super Cup. However, his brilliance on the field was not enough to secure a permanent move.
In 2004, Luyindula made the switch to Olympique Marseille, who paid a hefty €11 million transfer fee for his services. He was seen as the replacement for Didier Drogba. Despite the pressure from fans, who often compared him to his predecessor, Luyindula could only manage 10 goals and became the club's leading goalscorer.
Loan Spells and Transfer to Paris Saint-Germain
Loaned to AJ Auxerre in the summer of 2005, Luyindula failed to impress then-manager Luis Fernandez, who declined to make the move permanent. On August 31, 2006, he was loaned to Spanish club Levante UD, where he struggled to break into the starting lineup.
In January 2007, Luyindula found a new home at Paris Saint-Germain, which activated the buyout clause in his contract with Levante. He made his debut on February 10 and scored his first goal for the club on April 7. PSG went on to complete the permanent transfer at the end of the season.
PSG Success and International Recognition
The following season, Luyindula's goalscoring prowess returned, culminating in a recall to the national team for a match against Lithuania. On September 1, 2009, he extended his contract with PSG for an additional two years. In May 2012, he received another one-year contract extension.
Late Career in the MLS
After becoming a free agent in March 2013, Luyindula signed a contract with the New York Red Bulls in the Major League Soccer (MLS).
