Early Life and Career
Anton Ondruš was born on March 12, 1950, in Trenčín, Czechoslovakia. He began his football career at his hometown club, TJ Spartak Trenčín, as a defender. Ondruš quickly rose through the ranks, making his first-team debut in 1968.
International Success
In 1977, Ondruš made his debut for the Czechoslovakia national team. He represented his country in two UEFA European Championships, winning the title in 1976 and claiming bronze in 1980. Ondruš also participated in the 1982 FIFA World Cup.
Club Honors
Ondruš spent the majority of his playing career with TJ Slovan Bratislava. With the club, he won the Czechoslovak First League championship in the 1978/79 season.
Coaching Career
After retiring as a player, Ondruš transitioned into coaching. He has held various roles with Slovakian clubs, including stints as head coach of FK Dukla Banská Bystrica and FC Nitra.
Current Role
As of 2023, Anton Ondruš is the coach of the Slovakia U-21 national team. He has guided the team to several notable achievements, including qualification for the 2023 UEFA European Under-21 Championship.
