Julio Díaz: Mexican Professional Boxer

Julio Díaz is a renowned Mexican professional boxer who has made a name for himself in the welterweight division. He holds the distinction of having been crowned the IBF Lightweight Champion, claiming both the interim title in 2006 and the full title in 2007.

Early Career and Notable Fights

Díaz's boxing journey began in February 1999, when he made his professional debut. In October 2001, he faced and lost to Angel Manfredy in a split decision. Despite this setback, he continued to progress, ultimately challenging the highly-regarded José Luis Castillo in March 2005, but ultimately falling short.

Title Glory in the Lightweight Division

In May 2006, Díaz embarked on a triumphant path, defeating Ricky Quiles to capture the IBF Lightweight Interim Title. His momentum carried him to February 2007, where he squared off against reigning IBF Lightweight Champion Jesus Chavez and emerged victorious via knockout.

Unification Fight and Retirement

In October 2007, Díaz engaged in a unification bout against fellow champion Juan Diaz (who held the WBA and WBO titles). Despite controlling the majority of the fight with precise strikes, Julio Diaz's corner signaled the end of the contest at the start of the 9th round, resulting in a stoppage victory for Juan Diaz. Following this defeat, Julio Díaz decided to retire from professional boxing.
