Karl-Heinz Riedle: A Prolific Striker and Coach

Early Career and Werder Bremen Triumphs

Karl-Heinz Riedle began his professional football career in 1983 with FC Augsburg. In 1986, he joined Blau-Weiß 1890 Berlin, but their relegation from the Bundesliga led to his transfer to Werder Bremen in 1987. Under manager Otto Rehhagel, Riedle excelled in his first season, scoring 18 goals in 33 games and helping Werder Bremen win the German Bundesliga title. He also made his national team debut in 1987 against Finland.

World Cup Glory and Serie A Stint

Riedle's performances earned him a place in the German squad for the 1990 FIFA World Cup. He played a key role in their triumph, contributing to their victory. After the tournament, he secured a high-profile transfer to Lazio for £5.5 million. He featured in the 1992 European Championship, scoring a crucial brace against Sweden in the semi-finals.

Return to Germany and Champions League Triumph

In 1993, Riedle returned to Germany to join Borussia Dortmund. He helped the club win the Bundesliga in 1995 and 1996 before reaching the pinnacle of European club football in 1997. He scored two goals in the Champions League final against Juventus, sealing a 3-1 victory and Dortmund's first European Cup.

Premier League and Coaching Career

Riedle moved to Liverpool in 1997, where he played a supporting role to the emerging Michael Owen. He then joined Fulham in 2000, where he reunited with former Liverpool manager Roy Evans. Riedle played a dual role at Fulham, occasionally serving as caretaker-manager following Paul Bracewell's sacking in March 2000.

Post-Playing Career

Riedle retired from football in 2001 after scoring his final goal against Queens Park Rangers. He has since established his own sports school, works for a sports marketing agency, and owns a four-star hotel.
