Formation and Early Years

In 1996, the seven-member band Kartel emerged from the industrial city of Kramatorsk in eastern Ukraine. The band's music stood out against the traditional fare of the local rock scene, drawing inspiration from experimental rock, jazz, and hip-hop artists.

Breakthrough and Recognition

In 1998, Kartel released their debut album, "X-PUNK", which caught the attention of the Ukrainian music community. The album propelled the band to national acclaim and earned them nominations for the Russian music award "Cactus" and invitations to prominent festivals.

Moving to St. Petersburg

Driven by their desire to expand their reach, Kartel relocated to St. Petersburg in 2000. They immediately established a presence in the city's vibrant music scene, performing at renowned venues such as Polygon Club and Moloko Club.

Experimental Sound and Evolution

Over the years, Kartel has continued to experiment with their sound, blending elements of rock, metal, jazz, and electronic music. They have released numerous albums, including the 2002 album "Priap Dance" and the 2010 EP "5." Each release showcased their innovative approach to music and their constant exploration of new sonic possibilities.

Creative Collaborations

In addition to their own musical pursuits, Kartel has collaborated with other artists and projects. They have worked with reggae artist Prokop, who joined the band in 2002, and filmmaker Andrei Alyakrinsky on the animated music video for their song "SoPROvozhdenie."

Current Scene

Today, Kartel continues to perform and record music. Their lineup has evolved over the years, but the band's commitment to pushing the boundaries of music has remained steadfast. They continue to be a force in the independent music scene and have inspired numerous emerging artists.
