Early Life

Katherine Marie Heigl was born on November 24, 1978, in Washington, D.C., USA. Her parents, Paul Heigl and Nancy Heigl, worked as a financial executive and personnel manager, respectively. She has a sister named Meg Heigl and a brother named Holt Heigl. Unfortunately, her brother Jason, who was also an actor, passed away in a car accident in 1986. Katherine has German heritage from her father's side and Irish heritage from her mother's side. She was raised in a strict religious upbringing in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and attended New Canaan High School, where she learned to play the cello.

Early Career

At the age of 9, Katherine appeared in a hair care product advertisement, which was produced by her aunt. The photos of young Katherine were sent to modeling agencies, leading to her appearances in commercials for "Cheerios" and other similar projects. Her film debut came in 1992 in the drama film "That Night" alongside young actresses Juliette Lewis and Eliza Dushku. She then worked with director Steven Soderbergh in the drama film "King of the Hill" (1993).
