Early Life and Education

Kathleen Wynne was born in Toronto, Ontario, on May 21, 1953. She graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in linguistics.

Personal Life

In 1977, Wynne married and had three daughters. In 1991, she divorced her husband and came out as a lesbian. Since 2005, she has been in a same-sex marriage.

Political Career

In 2003, Wynne entered public service, holding various positions in the Ontario government. In January 2013, she was elected leader of the Ontario Liberal Party.

Premiership

On February 11, 2013, Wynne became the Premier of Ontario, making her the first woman to hold the position. During her time as Premier, she initiated the Supporting Children, Youth and Families Act in 2017, which supported the LGBTQ+ community.

Electoral Defeat and Retirement

In the 2018 provincial election, Wynne's Liberal Party placed third, dropping from 58 to 7 seats. Wynne resigned as Premier and leader of the Liberal Party.
