Biography of Kevin Reynolds

Kevin Reynolds is a Canadian figure skater known for his intricate technical routines, including the quadruple Salchow and the '4-3-3' combination. At the age of 24, Kevin has already become a regular participant in major national and international competitions, and even achieved a brilliant victory at the Four Continents Championships. He was born in North Vancouver, British Columbia and grew up in Coquitlam. He continues to reside in Coquitlam to this day. It is known that he was homeschooled, just like his brother Ryan. Kevin began skating at the age of 5 and started training under the guidance of Joanne McLeod at the age of 9.

In 2001, Reynolds won the Canadian national championship at the junior level. Two years later, at the age of 12, he also emerged victorious in the novice level. The following year, Kevin placed fourth at the junior national championship, earning him a spot on the junior national team and a ticket to the Junior Grand Prix. In his debut at the Junior Grand Prix, Reynolds impressively finished in 5th place. He also performed well in subsequent national competitions, ranking second overall.

The following season, Reynolds improved his results at the Junior Grand Prix and transitioned to the senior level of national competitions. He finished 9th, earning himself a spot at the World Junior Championships, where he placed 7th, showcasing a brilliant quadruple Salchow in his free program. In the 2006-2007 season, Kevin won the Junior Grand Prix in Mexico and placed second in Taiwan. Despite being hindered by food poisoning during the final, he still managed to win the bronze medal.

At the 2008 Canadian Championships, Reynolds successfully executed the '4-3-3' combination in his free program, becoming the first Canadian skater to accomplish this maneuver and the second in the history of figure skating. In the 2008-2009 season, Kevin finished in 4th place at two Grand Prix events and the national championship. At the last moment, he secured a spot at the World Junior Championships, where he placed 9th. Although he did not make it to the Canadian Olympic team, he qualified for the Four Continents Championships and the World Championships. At the Four Continents Championships, Kevin took the lead after the short program and despite a less successful free program, his overall score was enough to secure the bronze medal. At the World Championships, he struggled in the short program but placed 2nd in the free program, ultimately finishing in 11th place overall.

In 2010, Reynolds had a brilliant performance at the Skate Canada International, becoming the first skater in history to include two quadruple jumps in his short program. Taking advantage of a rule change that allowed skaters to perform one quadruple jump individually and one in combination, Kevin incorporated two difficult elements into his program, earning a high score. He finished 4th at the Canadian Championships and was soon included in the Four Continents Championships team and the World Championships team as a reserve. At the Four Continents Championships, Reynolds placed 11th due to aggravating an old thigh injury during the short program. After recovering, he returned in time for the World Championships, replacing Shawn Sawyer in the main team. Reynolds finished 20th in the overall standings.

In 2013, Reynolds won gold at the Four Continents Championships. Shortly after his victory, he suffered a torn cyst in his left knee.
